“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has,“ Margaret Mead, writer and activist>
“If enough people are fighting for change then change will come and every single person counts,” Greta Thunburg, 2020, speaking in Bristol.
… and remember the 3.5% rule
The Airport is now taking steps to counter the Council’s rejection of its planning application. With the massive increase in demand on resources since we started in 2019 we need further support as we work to protect people and the environment from the excessive demands and destructive operations of Bristol Airport. Just a small amount of your time could make a big difference. Please get in touch at stopbaex@gmail.com with ‘join’ in the subject line.
Current Campaigns
Current campaigns aim to ban night flights, create a Citizen’s Charter for the Airport 2020-50, and penetrate the fog of ‘permitted development’ that allows the Airport to bypass the normal requirements of planning permission. See:

Organisation
Campaign Co-ordinators
If you like the idea of developing the organisation and work of SBAEx campaign groups then we want to hear from you!
Community Liaison
Do you enjoy working in the community? We need people to publicise information to village and community social media networks about airport developments, to arrange talks by specialist speakers on aviation / airport issues and to organise local seminars with specialist panels. We’ll provide all the information and speakers. Local SBAEx groups also deliver leaflets and posters and are involved in liaising with the local press, lobbying, letter-writing, petitions and so on. There’s a real sense of constructive protest developing across the region and we need to make the most of it.
Social Media
If you have experience using social media in a professional and / or campaign context, especially working with WordPress and/or Facebook, we need your support to monitor, create and manage content, co-manage the Facebook discussion group, monitor / follow up comments to Facebook page and the website and so on.
Research and Investigation
Put your research skills to good use in checking facts and investigating Airport claims. We also need to strengthen our investigative work in a number of areas…
Creativity
Use your creative skills to write short articles, stories, poems, songs and videos that challenge the Airport’s assumption that growth is good.
Lobbying local Councillors and MPs
The majority of our elected representatives are against Airport expansion but it’s still important that councillors and MPS know that they have support for relevant policies and, if necessary, where and when they still need to take action.
Fund Raising
We will need money especially crowd funding, seeking grants and approaches to sponsors. Are you willing to lend your time and experience as and when necessary?
Press and Broadcast Media
We need further involvement in various areas. For example:
– to maintain contacts with selected journalists
– to circulate press releases to press and media
– to monitor and respond to reporting of Airport issues in mainstream media
… and more besides
Liaison with Airport opposition groups in UK and Overseas
Would you like to find out what other groups working to limit Airport expansion in the UK and abroad are doing in order to share information and ideas?
Liaison with regional and national environmental groups
Would you be interested in developing contact with key regional environmental groups to share ideas and information?
