Here’s the timetable for the Bristol Airport appeal against North Somerset Council’s refusal to allow planning permission for expansion.
This next phase starts with a public consultation with a deadline of 6th January. Everybody who submitted a comment on the original appeal will be notified by North Somerset Council, and we will publish a short guide on ‘HOW TO RESPOND’ before the end of this week. Here’s the schedule:
2020
30 Nov: Amended growth forecasts and information on environmental impact (ES Addendum) by Airport.
30 Nov – 6 Jan: North Somerset Council undertakes a public consultation on amended submission. (In passing, the consultation on the original planning application also coincided with Christmas period in 2018!)
2021
6 Jan: Public consultation closes.
11 Jan: Planning Inspectorate (PINS) start appeal process.
25 Jan – 22 Feb: Case statements finalised and submitted together with other evidence, including public comment.
8 March (tbc): parties meet for a first Case Management Conference (CMC).
20 July – 17 Aug (approx.): Public Inquiry opens and runs for about 4 weeks.
Mid-Oct (approx): a decision …
Just in case this look straightforward, the appeal can be ‘called in’ or ‘recovered’ by the Secretary of State at any point in the process.

Finally, were taking every opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the CrowdJustice funding appeal which raised over £16,500 to fund expert legal representation at the Inquiry, a magnificent step beyond the original aspiration of £10,000. This has been added to the funds already raised from other sources to ensure that our case, represented by the PCAA barristers, has the strongest possible legal voice... So again, THANK YOU.
