On April 4, a small, dedicated team of highly-trained and expertly-equipped mannequins took up stations beside the busy A38. They were loosely affiliated with the Stop Bristol Airport Expansion campaign and their objective was simple and heroic. With bandannas and breathmasks, they aimed to focus public attention on the Bristol Airport’s large and growing carbon footprint. (After all, the airport is single-handedly undermining Bristol’s plans for carbon neutrality.)
While SBAE’s dummies undertook their mission in full awareness of its likely cost, they seem to have made their ultimate sacrifice faster than anyone expected. They arrived at their positions at midday. By 0700 the following morning, the entire team had been ‘disappeared’, leaving behind not so much as a stray mesh filter. None of the dummies has since contacted SBAE HQ. We can only conclude the worst.
Who was responsible for silencing these heroic if inanimate simulacra? We call on the agency in question to identify itself.
